Is Your Ordination Human Or Divine?

"Who authorized John to carry on his ministry? Was his ordination human or divine? What credentials did he hold from Israel's leaders?" - Believer's Bible Commentary
"John was a man sent from God. His power came from divine enduement, not from human endorsement." - Believer's Bible Commentary
In Matthew 21:25, the Lord Jesus asked the chief priests and the elders a very direct question concerning John the Baptist's ministry - "The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men?..."
"...from heaven, or of men?..." - This is a question that needs to be asked of every ministry today that claims to be called of God. In this hour, we are plagued with an abundance of those who are self-appointments rather than being God-appointments. Resultantly, the Truth is not going forth...God's work is not being done... Jesus is not glorified... cults and false ideologies are on the rise...and people are dropping into Hell by the truckloads!
Even though Jesus had a different purpose in mind when He questioned the chief priests and elders concerning John's ministry, in this message, we would like to take this same question and draw a line in the sand between the true and the false in the ministries of today.
"The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men?"
When Jesus mentioned "the baptism of John," He was actually referring to his whole mission and ministry. This included his principal employment...his baptisms, preaching, and prophecies...and the doctrine he preached.
Notice that the Lord did not stop with talking about John's mission and ministry. Every one was fully aware of the work that he did.
The crucial point that Jesus wanted to make was whether or not John's ministry was "from heaven" (or God) or "of men." And that should be the issue with all ministries as well - is this
"from heaven, or of men?"
If it is "from heaven," then it is from God...has a Divine Author... is inspired by a Divine Commission...is of Divine Institution...and is provoked by a Divine Authority. On the other hand, if it is "of men," it is provoked by human authority... birthed by another man's device or his own...of his own personal head...coming from some human appointment...and having an earthly tendency.
John 1:6 definitely answers this question for us concerning John's ministry when it says - "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John." What this Scripture is actually indicating is that John was divinely commissioned...sent by heaven...received his message, mission, credentials, and instructions from God... and was as one who came from the side of God.
Another Scripture says this of this particular Prophet - "For John came unto you in the way of righteousness..."  (Matthew 21:32). His doctrine, religious tenet, and practice were all in the right way - teaching and preaching the necessity of righteousness through repentance and faith. He proclaimed the truth and lived agreeably to it. His was the doctrine of repentance. He lived a strict and serious life - displaying a contempt of the world, a denial of himself, and a strict obedience to the Law of God.
No matter what opposition came against John and his ministry, nothing or no one could shut it down - that is, without God's allowance - for it came "from heaven."
Acts 5:38 confirms this fact - "...for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God."
Many ministries of today are "of men" - proceeding from the devices of the flesh. They seek after Self-promotion...are consumed with secular interests...and are not for the glory of God. The business they are engaged in is of a human affair... projected by men...and carried on upon selfish principles and worldly views. Because of this, they will eventually "come to nought."
"The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men?"
Look around at the ministries in the church today. Are they - "from heaven, or of men"?
The ministries that you financially support on a regular basis - are they "from heaven, or of men"?
How can you know?
Are they sent by God? Are they coming in the way of righteousness? Do they preach and teach the word of repentance? Does their word bring conviction and call sinners and saints alike to repentance? Are they filled with the Truth of God's Word?
Or, on the other hand, are they appointed by some man? Are their messages "soft on sin"? Do they preach a sinner-friendly or unoffensive message? Do they lack the conviction of Holy Spirit? Are they bringing forth nothing more than motivational messages that any worldling can proclaim? Are these messages filled with lies or distortions of God's Holy Word?
We have one final question for all Preachers - Is Your Ordination Human or Divine?
If Divine, then prove it!
May God Bless His Word,

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.  (Isaiah 54:17)
