At this very moment, are you experiencing what the Bible calls "the evil day"?
You may ask - what is it?
This message will define it for you, and then tell you which directives you should follow when going through it.
Believe it or not - "the evil day" - generally speaking - is the time of life on earth. Hence, every one is experiencing its effects in one way or another.
Specifically, it is a time of war.
It is a day -
...when the devil makes his heaviest assaults
...when great peril, temptation, sore affliction, and persecution can be found
...when sin and iniquity abound and error and heresy prevail.
It is a season when the Christian encounters special trials of his faith - a winter season, if you will. It is also a time when worldliness is rampant in the church... believers are backsliding and falling into open sin...and false doctrine is being taught throughout the land.
All believers in Jesus Christ must realize that they have been called to conflict. Hence, at all times, they must maintain a militant position throughout their lifetime - being fully aware that they are engaged in a sore, fierce, and dangerous spiritual combat.
In Ephesians 6:13-14, the Apostle Paul directed all saints with these words - "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore..."
In 2 Thessalonians 2:15, he admonished the "brethren" to "stand fast."
And, finally, in James 5:8, the Apostle James instructed the Christians to - "...stablish your hearts..."
Within these four Scriptures, we find four directives for the saint to adhere to - when experiencing "the evil day."
In order to avoid being destroyed by the evil in this life, you must -
...contradict, resist, and stand face to face against your enemy - Satan
...resolve - by the grace of God - not to yield to the devil in any measure - always striving against sin
...hold your position...stand victorious at your post...or stand your ground
...at all times and in every place, be ready for an attack - being fully clothed in the armor of God.
Your sole purpose as a Christian soldier is to stand armed... maintain your guard...keep your ground...continue in your station...stand watch continually...and not yield to the devil. You must be especially careful to watch over yourself in those areas where you find yourself the weakest - spiritually speaking.
When you have accomplished all things...finished a difficult task...or done everything that the crisis demanded - then and only then have you "done all," conquered all, or overcome. It is when the fight is over and you are standing as the victor in the conflict that you must still watch and pray - always ready to repel any new attack...oppose Satan's schemes...or resist his next temptation.
You may feel weak, fearful, or defeated at times - nonetheless, you must stand. You may see others falling spiritually all around you - nonetheless, you must stand. It may seem as though all things are against you...the end of your trial will never come...or the measure of the conflict allotted to you is excessively unbearable - even so, stand anyway.
3. STAND FAST
Realize one thing - you have been chosen to salvation. Therefore, don't allow yourself to be shaken or troubled in mind by the temptations which surround you. Instead, be steadfast and persevere. Hold your ground doctrinally and practically. Whatever you do - don't yield to your enemy by wandering into sin or taking hold of any kind of error.
4. STABLISH YOUR HEART
No matter what happens - you cannot allow yourself to grow weary and fretful.
You must take courage -
...let your purpose and faith remain firm and unwavering - not sinking under the pressure
...exercise patience while you wait for your deliverance
...and stay fixed in the love of God and in His covenant of grace.
Wait! Wait! Patiently wait for His coming. He will surely come and deliver you from all your troubles.
You may be facing "the evil day" right now in your life whereby Satan seems to have the upper hand in matters. If that be the case, then do as the Bible says and Withstand, Stand, Stand Fast, and Stablish Your Heart.
Whatever you do, do not yield to Satan in any way, nor let down your guard.
Never forget what the Scriptures say - "...If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)
"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us" (Romans 8:37).
