"For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, He shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches." (Isaiah 18:5)
This verse has to do with the plans of Assyria against Israel. However, it can also apply to the plans of the devil against your life.
Here we have a picture of the "bud" being "perfect." The blossom, sprout, shoot, or branch is perfected. In other words, the plans are maturing - they look successful.
"The sour grape is ripening in the flower" - The "flower" is becoming a ripening grape. The plans of the enemy are surely maturing against you.
"For afore the harvest...He shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches." The good news is that before the plans of the enemy against you could ever "prosper," God comes along with His "pruning hooks" or shears and cuts them off. The schemes are fully laid...things are going on and promise well...the whole branches have clusters on them...the evil designs are ready to be put into execution - but here comes God to foil all the devil's plans. He comes along and cuts off - not just the grapes - but the entire branch.
What schemes has Satan been forming against your life? Does it seem as though God is nowhere in the picture - that He is seemingly indifferent to it all?
Don't be mistaken! He is surveying the entire picture. Just when the evil plans are maturing, He will disconcert them. While the green grape is ripening and the devil feels as though he has gotten the victory over your life, God will come along and cut down the entire branch - preventing the formation of any future plans.
