"I will feed My flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD. " (Ezekiel 34:15)
"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures..." (Psalm 23:2)
God's people are His "flock." He has a right to them - property in them - for He has separated and distinguished them from all others. He has gathered them out of the world By His Spirit and by His grace. Hence, He has a responsibility to tend to their every need.
The Scriptures say that He "causes them to lie down" or "makes them to lie down in green pastures." Whenever they grow tired through their various wanderings, He "causes" or "makes" them rest in a place where they can find suitable food, safety, calmness, and repose.
These "green pastures" give the picture of being fully fed or satisfied - where every want is completely supplied. They reflect an image of a "flock" lying down with calm contentment in a luxuriant grass - surrounded by abundance.
They typify the Covenant of Grace - with its many blessings and promises - or more specifically - the fulness of grace found in Christ. They also symbolize the Scriptures which are always fresh "manna"...always rich...and a never exhausted supply of nourishment for the soul.
Are you one of God's "flock"? Then be assured of this - God has a "wealthy place" prepared for you. It is a place where you will find rest for your soul. It is also a place where you will enjoy overwhelming abundance for your every need.
In the Scriptures, that place is referred to as the "green pastures." God wants you to be in that place. He will "cause" or "make" you to "lie down" there. He will arrange your circumstances and "order your steps" in order to get you there.
Those "green pastures" are Jesus. He is your "portion."
And He is your Jehovah Jireh - the Lord your Provider - your Shepherd Who is always Faithful to "feed" or take care of His sheep.
