United We Stand
"For what family is so strong,
what community so firm, as not to be overturned by enmity and dissension?
- Matthew Henry
-
Contending and striving with
one another like dogs.
-
Behaving like brute beasts.
-
Tearing and rending one
another.
-
Always critical, spiteful, and
malicious.
-
Wounding each other's souls
with harsh and unkind words.
-
Vicious name-calling amidst
flaring tempers.
This is the description of
many homes throughout our land. Unfortunately, this is the description of
many Christian homes as well. Satan is after the homes, and he is looking
for every opportunity to tear down the family unit in any way that he can.
It would behoove us to take heed to the words of the Lord Jesus Christ
today that are recorded in Matthew 12:25 - "...Every...house divided
against itself shall not stand."
Notice that the Lord Jesus did not say - a few houses or this particular
house or that house will not stand.
He didn't say the house of the poor man or the house of the sinner will
not stand.
He said - "Every...house divided against itself shall not stand."
This would include the house of -
...the Superintendent, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir Director
...the Pastor, Evangelist, Prophet, Apostle, and Teacher of God's Holy
Word
...the most spiritual saint as well as that of the most degenerate
heathen.
"Every...house divided against itself
shall not stand."
Hebrews 6:18 - We all know that it is "impossible for God to lie," so that
what the Lord Jesus is telling us today is a sure fact and absolute truth
and, given the right conditions, will most assuredly come to pass.
Satan knows the Truth of Jesus' statement, but do we know it?
He knows that if he could get the members of every family fighting,
bickering, and hating one another; then he has every home in his hands and
will destroy them.
He knows very well the Truth behind Galatians 5:15 which says - "But if ye
bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of
another."
"Every...house divided against itself shall not stand."
Luke 11:17 - The Apostle Luke
records Jesus' words on this subject in this manner -
"...and a house divided
against a house falleth."
In other words, every
disunited household - every household cut in pieces or split - will
collapse.
The welfare of the family depends on its unity, agreement, cooperation,
and concord. It can only survive and prosper where there is true harmony
among its members.
What can be done to counteract this diabolical assignment to destroy every
existing family? The Scriptures give us some guidelines to follow -
1. Be Perfectly Joined Together
1 Corinthians 1:10 - "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no
divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same
mind and in the same judgment."
The terminology used here implies framing, mending, restoring, and
repairing that which is rent or disordered. So, initially we must settle
any controversies between us and our family members and work to rebuild
that which was destroyed by the enemy.
The Lord Jesus is our Peace, and He is well able to break down any walls
of partition that may be in existence between us. Through His Shed Blood,
He had slain any and all enmity and dissension that could ever exist among
mankind.
By the help and grace of God and His Shed Blood, we can begin to "speak
the same thing," look for a common ground of agreement, and have a
determination that there will be no more division between us. With a clean
heart and a right spirit, we can approach each other with right feelings
and mutual good will and live in harmony once again.
2. Let All Things Be Done With Charity
1 Corinthians 16:14 - "Let all things be done with charity."
The Love of Jesus must regulate all that we say and do. Spending much time
in the Presence of Jesus will allow the Holy Spirit to shed the Love of
God in our hearts for any individual with whom we are having conflict. We
will then have no problem behaving with a spirit of humility and meekness
towards each other, preferring one another, and respecting one another.
3. Stand Fast In One Spirit - Striving Together
Philippians 1:27 - "...that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind
striving together for the faith of the gospel."
We need to wake up to the fact that we all have a common enemy who is out
to destroy us and everything that is dear to us. Instead of striving
against each other, we need to strive together. Instead of fighting one
another, we need to rise up as Mighty Warriors and begin to wrestle
together in union against our common foe. We must persevere, persist, and
stand firm in pushing this enemy back who seeks to destroy us and our
relationships with one another.
No more will we fight each other.
Together, we will strive against this common enemy who is the Devil - the
slanderer, accuser, and destroyer of all good.
Psalm 60:4 says to us today -
"Thou hast given a banner to them that fear Thee, that it may be displayed
because of the Truth."
God has given each and every
one of us who Fear His name a Banner.
On it, may we post before the devil and all of his imps this message
concerning our families -
United We Stand
May we never allow the enemy
another chance to stick his ugly head in the door of our homes.
Now is the time for the family.
God is calling every Father
and Mother and every son and daughter to lift up their Banner of Truth
before this wicked world under the control of Satan and his evil powers.
May we strive together for the Faith of the Gospel which proclaims to all
that Jesus Saves - and, yes, that includes the Family!
May God Bless His Word.
