That Rock Is Jesus, Yes, He's The
One!
"Those who trust to any
rock but God will find it sand in the day of their distress; it will fail
them when they most need it." - Matthew Henry
One of the greatest weapons that Satan uses against the Child of God is
Fear. Because we cannot see into the future, we oftentimes fail to
understand or grasp where our lives are headed or where our circumstances
are taking us. Many times we feel like the disciples out at sea where our
ship is filling up fast with the waves.
The enemy would love for us to panic and give way to our emotions and
physical senses.
One thing he doesn't want us to realize is that when our Faith is placed
in Jesus and His Holy Word, it is planted on solid ground. We have an
anchor that is holding our ship, and though the winds may blow as to
almost rip our ship apart, we will indeed make it to the other side.
How can we be so sure?
Matthew 28:18 - Because our Faith is in Jesus, the One Who has all power
in heaven and in earth.
Though everything around us is being shaken, the Rock of Ages remains the
same.
Though the storms rage in our hearts and souls, He still has everything
under control, and, at the opportune moment, He will speak "Peace" to
those storms.
The songwriter penned it so beautifully -
"In times like these you need a Saviour,
In times like these you need an anchor;
Be very sure, Be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!"
As you read these inspiring words, which concept seemed to strike you as
being very significant?
"In times like these"? "Be very sure"? Be sure that you have an "anchor"?
So many nowadays are concerned with the "times like these" and with being
sure that they have an "anchor" or the necessary physical requirements for
facing such times.
But how many, in reading this verse of song, were fully aware of the
crucial need for the "Solid Rock"?
Though there is nothing wrong with being concerned and prepared for hard
times ahead, the Holy Spirit wants His Church to keep their focus on One
Person and One Person Alone.
The songwriter calls our attention to that very One -
"That Rock is Jesus,
Yes, He's the One,
That Rock is Jesus,
The Only One;
Be very sure, Be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!"
This is what we must be "sure" of in this Late Hour.
So many are filled with fear, anxiety, and stress because they feel as
though they have nothing "Solid" to hold onto in the midst of an
unpredictable future and great uncertainties.
God has the answer for all of us. It is found in His Precious Son.
What the world needs now more than ever is something "Solid" - Someone on
whom they can depend. And we, as the Church of the Living God, have their
answer. His name is Jesus.
He is our answer in the midst of all the unpredictables, and He is the
answer for all of the world.
"That Rock is Jesus, Yes, He's the one...The Only One!"
This is what the Scriptures say about Him being our Rock -
-
Deuteronomy 32:18 - "Of
the Rock that begat thee..." In other words, He is our Creator, the author
of our being, and the One by Whom we live and move.
-
Psalm 18:2 - "The LORD
is my Rock..." He is our protection and safety in times of danger. He is a
refuge, offering escape from all of our enemies.
-
Psalm 62:7 - "...the
rock of my strength..." He is a strong Rock - a powerful defense.
-
Isaiah 17:10 - "...the
rock of thy strength..." He is a high Rock - a fortress which the enemy
can never assail.
-
Psalm 94:22 - "...my
God is the rock of my refuge." We set our feet upon this High Rock where
we feel safe and secure because we are totally out of the reach of our
enemy.
-
Psalm 89:26 - "...Thou
art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation." He is our only trust
and hope.
-
Psalm 95:1 - "...make a
joyful noise to the rock of our salvation." He is our one and only source
from whence we find help for our souls.
-
Isaiah 32:2 - "...as
the shadow of a great rock in a weary land." He is a projecting rock that
takes the battering of the winds and storm as well as the heat of the day.
We find great refreshment and relief under His inviting shade from the
fatigue and weariness of our journey through the desert.
-
Psalm 31:2 - Knowing
perils, troubles, and dangers firsthand, David gave us a simple prayer to
daily bring before the Lord - "...be Thou my strong rock..."
Is this how you find
yourself praying, O Christian?
Do you see how important it is in the perilous times in which we live to
daily cry out to the Lord that He would be our "strong rock"?
In the midst of great threats from our enemies and danger on ever side, we
need an immovable and impregnable place where we could run to for
protection and shelter from those who are set on our destruction! Jesus is
that "strong rock."
Psalm 40:2 - As Christians, what distinguishes us from others is the fact
that at the moment of salvation, God brought us up "out of an horrible
pit, out of the miry clay" and set our "feet upon a rock," and
"established" our goings.
We are a people who enjoy a firm footing for our feet.
Psalm 37:23 - Our steps are "ordered by the Lord."
Psalm 31:15 - Our times are in His hands.
Not everyone can say the same.
Regrettably, some, in these late hours, have forsaken the Lord and turned
to idols or other things for help and protection.
Deuteronomy 32:31 confirms that fact - "For their rock is not as our
Rock..."
And, in Deuteronomy 32:37, God inquires of those who had forsaken Him -
"And He shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they
trusted...?"
It is a sad commentary when God's people grow distant in their hearts to
the Lord. They become "fat" and "thick." Due to great prosperity and
abundance, they indulge themselves in all sorts of luxury and fleshly
gratification. They become lean spiritually and before long find
themselves lightly esteeming the "Rock" of their salvation. They see no
need for Him for everything seems to be perfectly secure and safe without
Him.
Deuteronomy 32:15,18 explains such a condition among the people of God -
"But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown
thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him,
and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation...Of the Rock that begat
thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee."
What a terrible, spiritual position to be in in the midst of great peril
and danger!
Isaiah 8:14 - Yet so many today are not seeking for a "sanctuary" in this
Great "Rock." They are not looking to Jesus for security, safety, hope,
defense, and deliverance.
Romans 1:25 - They are too busy worshipping and serving the "creature"
more than the "Creator." Isaiah 8:14 - Resultantly, they find this "Rock"
to be a "rock of offence" to their free and easy lifestyle.
Oh, Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
Is your focus on the Lord Jesus at this hour?
Are your feet planted on the Solid Rock?
Are you hidden in the cleft of the Rock of Ages?
Can you honestly say - "On Christ the Solid Rock I stand"?
James 1:22; Matthew 7:27 - For if you are playing games with God or are
caught up with the things of this world, whereby you are only a "hearer"
of the Word and not a "doer," then you will find that when the rains begin
to descend, the floods of peril come, and the winds blow and beat upon
your life or the security of it, then you will fall with a
"great...fall..."
Don't allow anything to come between you and the Lord.
Lay aside all idols or false securities and hopes.
Place all your Faith and Trust in the Lord Jesus.
"Be sure - be very sure - your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock."
Cry out to God like David did in Psalm 61:2 - "...lead me to the Rock that
is higher than I."
He is the Only One Who can keep us in the days ahead.
May God Bless His Word.
