THAT SPECIAL PLACE OF EXCELLENCY

Have you ever had others spread lies about you or believe false reports about you?

Psalm 62:3 - Did you ever have anyone "imagine mischief" against you?

How did it feel?
What did you do?
Who did you turn to?

Psalm 62 relates David's anguish in having others imagining mischief against him. His sincere question at the moment - as perhaps was yours - was - "How Long..."
Psalm 62:3 - "How long will ye imagine mischief against a man?"
How long will these lies from the enemy of my soul keep oppressing me and bringing me down?

Our first question to ask when false reports arise against us is - What have I done to deserve this? Why is this happening to me? Where did I go wrong?

Many times the problem is not that we have done something wrong, but that we have done something right!

Psalm 62:4 - David relates how his enemies sought to bring him down from his "excellency" - "They only consult to cast him down from his excellency..."

Through envy, they sought to bring him down from his exalted position in God.
They purposely aimed at one high in rank in His view.
They desired to hinder his preferment in Him.

Occasionally, this can happen to us.

We may be -
...seeking and following hard after the Lord
...studying and meditating on the Word and praying and fasting in order to draw closer to Jesus when false reports begin to arise against us

We may feel a greater and stronger anointing on our lives and see more fruit than ever in our Christian walk when, all of a sudden - seemingly from nowhere - here come the lies and treacherous attacks against us.

Our first reaction is to question - What is going on? Why is this happening to me? What in the world did I do to deserve this?

Let's look at Stephen for a moment.
Acts 6:5 relates how he was "a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 6:8 adds that he was "full of faith and power" and doing "great wonders and miracles among the people."
Acts 6:10 goes on to say that his opposers were not able to "resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake."

Oh! How they hated Stephen's place of "excellency"!
How they plotted to bring him down from that exalted place in Christ!
How they resisted and hated the anointing that was working in his life against them!

What did his enemies do?
Acts 6:11 says that "they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God."
Acts 6:12-13 says - "And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law."

The enemy of his soul hated that place of "excellency" in which Stephen found himself.

The devil hates when we are -
...full of faith and the Holy Ghost
...full of the Word of God
...full of God's love and compassion
...burdened for the lost and dying souls of this world.

He can't -
...bear to see us preaching and teaching under a Powerful Anointing
...tolerate watching us do wonders and signs like laying hands on the sick or casting out demons in Jesus' Name
...stand to watch God prosper us and bless our lives and our families with "good and perfect" gifts from His storehouse in heaven
...stand for us to be promoted on the job, in the church, in the ministry, or in the community.

He hates that place of "excellency" to which the Almighty has promoted us.
He will do everything imaginable to bring us down from that exalted place in Christ or that place of great blessing.

Psalm 62:4 - His main tactic is to raise up those who "delight in lies."
He will search out for just one who is easily given to the works of the flesh like envy, jealousy, and strife and stir him up to wreak havoc in our lives and ministries.

What should we do at this time?
How do we handle these false charges?
How do we rid ourselves of this oppression of the enemy?

Read the selected verses of Psalm 62 and see how David handled his adversaries who were out to "cast him down from his excellency" -
Psalm 62:1 - "Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from Him cometh my salvation."
Psalm 62:2 - "He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved."
Psalm 62:5 - "My soul, wait thou only upon God: for my expectation is from Him."
Psalm 62:8 - "Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him..."
Psalm 62:11 - "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God."
Psalm 62:12 - "Also unto Thee, O LORD, belongeth mercy: for Thou renderest to every man according to his work."

What did David do? He waited upon the Lord.

He realized in his heart that God and God alone was His only Hope and answer.
He was his "salvation."
He would be his "defence."

He poured out his heart before the Lord.
He acknowledged that God and God alone has all the power in heaven and in earth so he simply trusted Him to bring him through the treachery of his opposers.

He also realized that God is a God of great mercy and would have compassion on him in his trying situation.
He recognized that He was a God of recompense and would surely deal with his enemies in a just and appropriate way.

Psalm 62:3 refers to all those who seek to tear down another from their place of "excellency" as a "bowing wall" and a "tottering fence." God will see to it that they crumble under their own corruption and treachery. They will fall into the very pit that they dug for another.

What goes around comes around.
What they did unto others will one day fall upon their own heads.
They will reap what they have sown - only in greater measure for the harvest is always more than the original seed.

Psalm 62 tells us what David did in his time of great trial and tribulation.
Psalm 63, on the other hand, tells of what God will do.
Psalm 63:11 - "...every one that sweareth by Him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped."

Be encouraged today, O Saint of God!
God's Word is True!
All those who seek to cast you down from your "excellency" shall crumble as a "bowing wall" and a "tottering fence."
God will render to them according to their works.
"The mouth of them that speaks lies shall be stopped." .

God said it!
That settles it!
You can trust the Lord to do it!
You will once again be restored to your place of "excellency."

Whom God has exalted, raised up, blessed, endowed with gifts, and endued with Power - no man can tear down.
He may try, but he will not succeed.

Romans 3:4 gives the Final Word on it all - "...yea, let God be true, but every man a liar..."

May God Bless His Word.
