GOD CANNOT LIE

Can man lie? Oh, yes! He does it on a regular basis. He will say one thing and do another. He will make promises that He never intends to keep. He will tell a lie, deceive, deal falsely, be untrue in his commitments, trick you, cheat you for his own advantage, and fail you.
The Good News is that "God is not a man..." (Numbers 23:19).

Hebrews 6:18 tells us - "...in which it was impossible for God to lie..."
Numbers 23:19 says - "God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?"
Titus 1:2
says - "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie..."
1 Samuel 15:29 says - "And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for He is not a man, that He should repent."
And Romans 3:4 tells us - "God forbid: yes, let God be true, but every man a liar..."

What comes to mind when you hear the word "impossible"
What is absolutely impossible for man to do?
What impossibilities are you facing?
How would you define the word "impossible"?

The Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines "impossible" as incapable of being or occurring. Someone is incapable of being something else. Some event is incapable of ever occurring. Other resources define "impossible" as unable, weak, could not do, impotent, and unable to be done.

In relation to the Scriptures, most believers are familiar with the verse - Matthew 17:20 - which says - "...If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed...nothing shall be impossible unto you."
Another familiar Scripture is Matthew 19:26 which says - "...With men this in impossible; but with God all things are possible."
Also, Hebrews 11:6 is oftentimes quoted - "But without faith it is impossible to please Him..."

There is a Scripture in the Book of Hebrews that is not often quoted but very powerful and meaningful and the subject of our message -

Hebrews 6:18"...in which it was impossible for God to lie..."

Can God ever lie? It is not possible. It is something unable to be done. He is incapable of ever being a liar, deceiver, trickster, or cheater. For Him to deal falsely, be untrue, speak deliberate falsehoods, or attempt to deceive by falsehoods is incapable of ever occurring. It is impossible!

To do so would be contrary to His nature for He is the "truth"(John 14:6).
He is a "God of truth and without iniquity"(Deuteronomy 32:4).
He is the "true God"(Jeremiah 10:10).
He is "true"(2 Corinthians 1:18).
His ways are "just and true"(Revelation 15:3).
His judgments are "true and righteous"(Revelation 16:7).
His words are "true"(2 Samuel 7:28).

Can man lie? Oh, yes! He does it on a regular basis. He will say one thing and do another. He will make promises that He never intends to keep. He will tell a lie, deceive, deal falsely, be untrue in his commitments, trick you, cheat you for his own advantage, and fail you.

The Good News is that "God is not a man..."(Numbers 23:19). Contrary to what the New Age Movement is trying to perpetrate - Man is not God, and God is not a man. The day that a degenerate man can go one day without telling a lie or being deceitful is the day that we might consider him for godhood.

The Scriptures tell us - "God is not a man, that He should lie..." (Numbers 23:19). So much for man being basically a Good Guy. The Scriptures tell us outrightly that he is a liar! In fact, Psalm 58:3 says - "The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies." How true this is! No one has to teach a three year old how to lie. It just comes naturally.

"God is not a man, that He should lie..."(Numbers 23:19).
Titus 1:2 says - "God...cannot lie."
It is totally contrary to His Divine Nature to deal in falsehoods.
It is His Nature to always speak the Truth.

1 Samuel 15:29 emphatically states - "And also the Strength of Israel will not lie..."
Why is He called the "Strength of Israel"? This word "Strength" means Eternity, always, continual, perpetuity, unto the end, and everlastingness. He is forever more the same and will not change His mind, recall His promise, or break His Word.

This brings us to the remainder of the verse - "God is not a man...neither the son of Man, that He should repent..."(Numbers 23:19)
"And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent..."(1 Samuel 15:29).
Once He has a mind to do something, He will surely get it done. He will not change His ways or purposes. With Him there is "...no variableness, neither shadow of turning."(James 1:17)
Man changes his mind and breaks his word. God cannot! It is impossible for God to do so!

"...hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?"(Numbers 23:19) God speaks, declares, promises, and commends with the full intention of accomplishing, providing, working, effecting, bestowing, fulfilling, furnishing, bringing to pass, and bringing forth whatever we need. When He makes a promise, He certainly accomplishes, performs, or comes on the scene to fulfill it.

"God is not a man..."(Numbers 23:19)
"God...cannot lie."(Titus 1:2)
"...The Strength of Israel will not lie..."(1 Samuel 115:29)
It is "...impossible for God to lie..."(Hebrews 6:18)

Resultantly, Romans 3:4 says - "...let God be true, but every man a liar..."
Before all men, God is to always and evermore be esteemed as being Faithful and True.
And He is! It is impossible for Him to be otherwise.

How comforting it is to have Someone like the Lord Jesus to entrust our lives to! What security is ours to know Him personally and to be walking in daily fellowship with Him. We can surely trust Him. He won't ever deceive us. He won't lie to us. He won't break a promise. He isn't fickle or whimsical. He won't change His mind or take back His words.
Praise God! Praise God! Praise God

It is "impossible for God to lie."(Hebrews 6:18)
Oh, that this Truth would saturate our being and transform our lives!
Oh! That we would never, ever fear again, worry, be anxious, feel overwhelmed by our circumstances, or feel lonely and depressed.
We can trust Jesus. If there is anyone who we can trust, it is Him. He cannot and will not ever "lie" to us.

Perhaps you have encountered some very painful experiences in your past where people - even "God's people" - deceived or tricked you. You may have entrusted your love and affection to those who were very deceitful - they spoke one way, but their hearts were against you.

David faced the same kind of friends. He said of "...a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance"(Psalm 55:13) - "The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords."(Psalm 55:21)

Perhaps there were those who spoke kindly to you, but were set on your destruction(Psalm 28:3).
Or maybe you felt like David when he related - "My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword."(Psalm 57:4)

There is no wound that is more painful than the wound of betrayal by someone you loved, respected, reached out to, laid down your life for, or entrusted as a dear friend. He spoke against you with a lying tongue. He surrounded your life with words of hatred. He fought against you "without a cause." He rewarded you evil for good, and hatred for your love(Psalm 109:2-5). Resultantly, you find yourself unable to reach out to others, for fear that you will be betrayed again.

Oh There is One Who cannot and will not ever betray you or deceive you.
The Lord Jesus will always and evermore be a Faithful and True Friend. He is the True God.

"God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: Hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?"(Numbers 23:19)

Remember - It is impossible for God to lie.

"...let God be true, but every man a liar..."(Romans 3:4)

Run to the Lord Jesus today.
Let Him heal your broken heart, bind up your wounds, make you every whit whole, and erase all your fears and painful memories.

Trust Him.
You can Trust Him.
You can surely Trust Him.
His Word is True.

What is He speaking to you today?
Has He given you a Precious Promise to stand on?
It will surely come to pass just as He spoke it.
You can count on it!
He is God and not a man!

May God Bless His Word.
Connie
