Who Can Fight God
And Win?

Who would dare to rebel against such a God?
Who would dare to become stiff and stubborn, tough and severe against His commands...resist or withstand such a One of infinite Wisdom and Power Who knows everything and can do anything?
It is utter madness to think that one can outwit or overpower Him!

Job 9:4 tells us - "He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against Him, and hath prospered?"

Oftentimes, in describing God, the Scriptures will link His Wisdom and Strength together.
Job 9:4 - Our opening verse says - "He is wise in heart and mighty in strength..."
He is cunning and  prudent...knows all things...searches out and sees all things...and is well able to manage His affairs for He is "wise in heart."

He is also "mighty in strength." He is powerful, full of force, vigor, and might...firm in His Will and Ways...and well able to execute all His designs and purposes.

This same coupling of God's Wisdom and Strength can be found throughout the Scriptures. Some examples are as follows -

Job 12:13 - "With him is Wisdom and Strength..."
Job 12:16 - "With Him is Strength and Wisdom..."
Job 36:5 - "Behold, God is mighty...He is mighty in Strength and Wisdom."
Daniel 2:20"Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for Wisdom and Might are His."
1 Corinthians 1:24 - "But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the Power of God, and the Wisdom of God."

Revelation 5:12 - "Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive Power...and Wisdom, and Strength..."

Job 26:12 - "He divideth the sea with His Power, and by His Understanding He smiteth through the proud."

Psalm 136:4-5 - "To Him Who alone doeth great wonders...To Him that by Wisdom made the
heavens..."

Psalm 147:5 - "Great is our Lord, and of great Power: His Understanding is infinite."

Jeremiah 10:12 - "He hath made the earth by His Power, He hath established the world by His Wisdom...."

Jeremiah 32:19 - "Great in Counsel, and Mighty in work..."

1 Corinthians 1:25 - "Because the foolishness of God is Wiser than men; and the weakness of
God is Stronger than men."

From these Scriptures, we see that God is the Fountain of all Wisdom and the Source of all Power. With Him is skill and prudence. With Him is might, valor, bravery, force, power, the Victory, and the Mastery.

Job 42:2 - Truly, we can wholeheartedly agree with Job when he said - "I know that Thou canst do every thing(Strength), and that no thought can be withholden from Thee(Wisdom)."

Indeed, Christ is the "Power of God" and the "Wisdom of God." He is the Great Creator Who made the heavens and the earth by His Great Power and Matchless Wisdom. He performs the Impossible by His
Power and reduces to nothingness the proud and the gainsayers by His Wisdom. In any situation that we face, He will forevermore be our Wonderful Counsellor -
Jeremiah 32:19 - Our Miracle Worker Who is "great in counsel, and mighty in work."

Job 9:4 says - "He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against Him, and hath prospered?"

Who would dare to rebel against such a God? Who would dare to become stiff and stubborn, tough and severe against His commands? Who would dare to resist or withstand such a One of infinite Wisdom and Power Who knows everything and can do anything? It is utter madness to think that one can outwit Him or overpower Him!

Yet there are those who adopt a firmness or resolution in opposing His law, claims, and  government over their lives.
Are you one of them?
Are you offering Him some form of resistance to a claim that He is presently making on your life? Are you putting forth a stiff right arm to Him saying, "I have gone thus far, and I will go no more" because you are afraid of what your wife and children might think of you if you should obey Him?

Many men of God have lost out with God because they feared their wife and her idle threats before Fearing God and His Holy Word. Many Moves of God have been quenched because the Pastor feared the idle threats of the deacon board and/or congregation before Fearing God and His Holy Word.

The Scriptures tell us that if we harden ourselves against God, we will never prosper.
What does this mean?

We will never meet True Success in our endeavors or Live in Peace and Harmony if we resist His authority in our lives. There will be no comfort in our way. We will meet with troubles and turmoil at every chance.

Proverbs 28:14 says - "...but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief." He that does not receive the impressions of God's Word and Rod on his life will meet with adversity, affliction, calamity, distress, evil, trouble, injury, and wrong.

Is it worth it to fight God?

Remember - Job 9:4 asks - "...who hath hardened himself against Him, and hath prospered?" There hasn't been found a one yet who could oppose such a God - "wise in heart and mighty in strength" - and get away with it!

Don't do it, Pastor!
Don't do it, Child of God!
Don't do it, Backslider!
Don't do it, Sinner Man and Sinner Woman!

Don't think that you can obstinately persist in rebellion against such a God without paying dearly for your folly.
You will find Him too hard for you!

Proverbs 29:1 says - "He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy."
Daniel 5:20 - If you refuse God's reproof and rebuke as Nebuchadnezzar did - "...his heart was lifted
up, and his mind hardened in pride..."
- you will be "destroyed." Your life, ministry, home, marriage, etc. will be ruined, broken in pieces, shattered, and crushed "without remedy." There will be nothing left to heal or cure. You will lose it all!

Don't allow your heart to become hardened against the commands of God and His judgments.
Don't deal proudly with those sent by Him to admonish you.
Don't become willful and obstinate with His Word or Rod in your life.
You are not fighting a man; You are fighting God Who is "wise in heart and mighty in strength."

1 Corinthians 10:22 asks - "Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than He?"
Nahum 1:6 inquires - "Who can stand before His indignation?"

Who would dare to fight with God?
Who considers himself a match for such an Awesome Being?
No one - as of yet - has hardened himself against Him and prospered.
No one has and no one ever will.

God is "wise in heart." He is "mighty in strength." No successful resistance to His claims can be made. Our position before Him must always be to yield to His demands and government over our lives. We are to be at peace with Him, offering Him no resistance.

Christian, where at you in your relationship with God?
Are you offering Him some form of resistance because you are afraid of the consequences of "selling out" to Him?
You cannot win in your resistance to Him.
He is too wise and too powerful for you to withstand.

Obey God no matter what the consequences.

Proverbs 28:14 says - "Happy is the man that feareth alway..." Oh, how blessed is the one who
continuously keeps a holy awe and reverence for Him - dreading ever offending such a One and incurring His displeasure.

May we all fear Him today.
And in fearing Him, may we all come to know the true blessedness that is found in doing things His way.
