Lord, Give Me Many Eyes To Help Me See What I Am To Do
"Many eyes see more
than one. That often proves best which was least our own doing."
"...two eyes see
more than one; and mutual advice is in order to mutual
assistance."
"A final decision
should be preceded by mature deliberation."
- Matthew
Henry Commentary
In Ecclesiastes 3:17, King Solomon said -
"...for there is a time there for every
purpose and for every work."
In Ecclesiastes 8:6, he adds -
"Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore
the misery of man is great upon him."
God has an exact, prefixed, set, appointed, or appropriate time
and way for every matter or event - including judgment or the
discharge of justice. Oftentimes, His timing conflicts with
man's purposes and commands - especially that of leaders and
rulers. All is determined and appointed by His counsel and
foreknowledge. Since it is not given to man to know the future -
unless the Lord supernaturally reveals it to him - it is in his
wisdom to expect and be ready or prepared for sudden changes to
happen at any time and in any place.
Because man does not consider the sovereignty and wisdom of God
- in ultimately being in total control of all matters - he
frequently runs into trouble - experiencing
"great" grief, distress, harm,
adversity, calamity, sorrow, and trouble.
He cannot live his life on his own. He may try, but his end will
always result in what Solomon confirmed in Ecclesiastes 8:6 -
"...the misery of man is great upon
him."
The truth of the matter is - We all need God - His Wisdom,
Counsel, and Understanding of all things. We cannot solve our
problems on our own nor discern the right way from the wrong -
simply because we are not that smart or gifted to know such
things.
Therefore, God offers us His "counsel"
-
Proverbs 8:14 says - "Counsel is mine,
and sound wisdom..."
Proverbs 19:20 says - "Hear
counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise
in thy latter end."
Proverbs 19:21 says -
"...the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand."
Proverbs 21:30 says -
"There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel
against the LORD."
If and whenever we are needing
wisdom, understanding, or counsel as to which "road"
to take, it behooves us to first consult with God's Holy
Book - the Bible. There we will surely find our answers.
It is the truly wise who consult
Him first before running to others for answers and
solutions - "...he that
hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.(Proverbs
12:15).
Unfortunately, there are many
among us who - because they do not like what He says or
directs - "set at nought" -
ignore, avoid, neglect, or simply refuse His plan. Their
reaction to His advice is brought out in the following
Scriptures -
Proverbs 1:25 says - "But ye have set
at nought all My counsel..."
Proverbs 1:30 says - "They would none
of My counsel..."
Their final end is just as Ecclesiastes 8:6 predicted -
"...the misery of man is great upon him."
In other words, "woe" unto
the man, woman, boy, or girl who refuses God's way and chooses
to go his own way or that of another. He will miss His perfect
timing or opportunity of escape or deliverance from his trouble
and heap to himself a worst distress than before.
We must never forget - God is the Only One Who knows the end
from the beginning.
Proverbs 14:12 warns us - "There is a
way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the
ways of death."
Oftentimes, we find that the Lord will lead us to those who are
full of the Word of God, wise, discreet, honest, and do not have
a spirit of contradiction. They are not easily given to a change
of principle or purpose. They have a made-up mind in serving the
Lord and following after His commands.
The Scriptures refer to these God-ordained counsellors as -
"the multitude of counsellors."
Much good results when we resist all rashness in our
decision-making...act with deliberation...and seek the
"counsel" of these wise and
trustworthy people.
The following Scriptures confirm this thought -
Proverbs 11:14 says - "Where no
counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors
there is safety."
Wherever there is no guidance, good advice, or word of
direction, the person in need ends up being cast down, thrown
down, or feeling overwhelmed by his circumstances. He finds
himself falling to pieces emotionally and physically as well as
being an easy prey for his enemies to attack and devour.
Some have even fallen away from the faith and perished - simply
because they could not handle their circumstances alone. They
did not seek help or guidance from God and others.
The Scriptures indicate that the outcome of this person's
situation could have been different for -
"...in the multitude of counselors there is safety."
In other words, this one could have
received the help, deliverance, rescue from his enemies, and
victory that he so desperately needed - if only he would have
asked.
Leaders, nations, and kingdoms have come to ruin - simply
because they did not seek adequate advice but handled their
matters recklessly. "...There is
safety" "...in the multitude of counselors..."
In other words,
prosperity - or things going well -
results.
Proverbs 15:22 says - "Without counsel
purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors
they are established."
Whenever a person is hasty about a decision and refuses to seek
advice about the way, plans "are
disappointed" - scattered, spread out, laid open,
broken, chopped in pieces, or never able to come to their point
or final end. The reason being is because circumstances - which
could have been foreseen and shut out - rise up to defeat them
"...but in the multitude of counselors
they are established" - these
same plans are raised up, made sure, accomplished, or
successfully stand. Hence, it is a good rule to always take the
time and pains to seek out godly advice before launching out on
a new direction for one's life.
Proverbs 20:18 says - "Every purpose
is established by counsel: and with good advice make war."
Every thought, design, or device is set in place or made secure
"by counsel."
And every battle, situation, or important matter that we will
ever face in life must be considered as major as when one
"makes war." It requires
caution, much consideration and deliberation, a maximum of
forethought, as well as the mature, Biblical counsel and advice
of others.
Are you needing more eyes today to
help you see into your situation at hand?
Look to the Lord and His Word first.
Then allow Him to lead and guide you
to godly counselors - "the multitude of
counselors" - who will offer you sound advice based on
His Word and led by His Spirit.
If you will do what God has directed in this message, you will
avoid "the misery of man"
that is "great upon him" because
he refuses to go the way of the Lord. Instead, you will
find help, deliverance, rescue, prosperity, the accomplishment
and fulfillment of your visions and dreams as given by the Lord,
as well as victory over all your enemies.
"Many eyes see more
than one..."
Can I hear an "Amen"?
