Nothing To Fear
There are so many powerful promises in the Word of God for the Child of God.
Which one would you especially want to claim for the year 2005?
How about Isaiah 54:17 which says - "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of Me, saith the LORD."
What an awesome Word from God!
But what exactly does it mean?
"No weapon" - In this particular verse, the word "weapon" refers to an instrument of war - a sword or a spear; any apparatus, object, article, or implement; an artillery; or something prepared.
We find the same word used in Deuteronomy 1:41 - referring to every man girding on "his weapons of war."
1 Samuel 21:8 records David's words to Abimilech - "And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me..."
Ecclesiastes 9:18 states - "Wisdom is better than weapons of war..."
In Jeremiah 51:20, God refers to Babylon as His "battle ax and weapons of war..."
Ezekiel 9:1-2 mentions a "destroying weapon" and a "slaughter weapon."
Ezekiel 39:9 names "...the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears" as "weapons."
"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper..."
2 Corinthians 10:3-4 informs us that the warfare that we are involved in is not "after the flesh" or "carnal."
Ephesians 6:12 adds - "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
Our main text - Isaiah 54:17 - tells us that "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper..."
Notice the Scripture does not deny that we are in a warfare, and that there will be weapons or prepared assignments against us from the enemy. There will be predetermined, preordained, planned, fashioned, and purposed spiritual instruments of war set against us. Nonetheless, the Good News is that these "weapons" will not succeed, make progress, and find final and complete success. They will not prove strong enough to do any harm to the people of God. They will fail. They will miss the mark.
Satan has many weapons that he can use against the Child of God. He can use discouragement, disappointment, rejection, hurt, depression, financial setback or difficulties, a breakdown in relationships or a separation of chief friends, sickness and infirmity, stress and confusion in circumstances, spiritual dryness, broken dreams, failure, affliction, persecution, temptation to sin, inordinate fears, oppression, etc.
God is not promising that these things will not touch the Child of God in 2005.
What He is promising is the fact that no attack of Satan - whatever it may be - will succeed and prove strong enough to harm His Child.
"The gates of hell shall not prevail..."(Matthew 16:18).
The Child of God will come out of each trial - Stronger than ever, More Than a Conqueror, and an Overcomer for sure. For every testimony, there must be a test. Each saint will have a Glorious Testimony to tell and the "treasures of darkness"(Isaiah 45:3) to share with others.
"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper..."
We can count on it!
"God is not a man, that He should lie..."(Numbers 23:19)
In 2005, "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper..."
God's Word is True and Faithful! Yes, it is!
Revelation 12:10 tells us that Satan is called the "accuser of our brethren."
The second part of our main text - Isaiah 54:17 - says - "...and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment..." Because he is the "accuser of our brethren," he will stir up, arouse, cause to come on the scene all evil speakers or talkers who will seek to misrepresent or falsely accuse the Child of God. They will seek to injure him by their words and accusations. Controversy will arise. Strife of words will come.
"...and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn..." - By manifestation of the truth and by well-doing(1 Peter 2:15), the Child of God will condemn his accusers, declare them wrong, and "put to silence the ignorance of foolish men."(1 Peter 2:15). By Sound Doctrine, he will "exhort and...convince the gainsayers"(Titus 1:9). He will convince them of error.
God promises vindication for the Child of God in every false charge.
He promises to send forth His truth to justify His Child.
He promises Victory, His Protection, Friendship, and Preservation.
How do we know this?
Isaiah 54:17 concludes by saying - "...This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of Me, saith the LORD."
There is a rich and sure portion and share for each worshipper of God. God promises His truth and Victory for all of His servants in all situations. Every false charge against the believer will be proven wrong. All controversy and strife of tongues will cease in the face of the Lord's Righteousness and truth. He will vindicate His children of all accusations of wrongdoing. Praise His Holy Name!
What a Powerful Promise to claim for the New Year of 2005!
Though the attacks against the Church of the Living God will come, they will not prosper or prevail.
Though the accusers of the brethren present themselves, they will be proven wrong each and every time.
We have a rich and sure inheritance in Christ.
We are the servants of the Living God.
Years ago, a songwriter penned this timely and appropriate chorus -
"No weapon formed against me shall prosper,
All that will rise up against me shall fall,
I will not fear what the devil will bring me,
I am a servant of - servant of the Living God -
I am a servant of God!"
Going into the New Year of 2005, we have nothing to Fear!
Romans 8:31 says - "...If God be for us, who can be against us?"
Hebrews 13:6 adds - "So that we may boldly say, THE LORD IS MY HELPER, AND I WILL NOT FEAR WHAT MAN SHALL DO UNTO ME."
May God Bless His Word.
