Does Anyone Know Of Me Down In Hell?
"Only God, or those commissioned by Him, could cast out devils." - Biblical Illustrator - New Testament
"Satan's power yields only to Omnipotence." - Biblical Illustrator - New Testament
Who are you as far as the demonic world is concerned? Does the devil know who you are in Christ or are you an imposture? Are you a man or woman filled with or empty of God? Is your Christianity a mock enthusiasm or the "real deal"?
Would you like to know what an evil spirit said one day to a group of men who were trying to cast him out? The story is reocrded in Acts 19:13-15 - "Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?"
You will immediately notice that they said the right words to the evil spirits - "...We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth..." - but they did not have the power.
This says something to us today, doesn't it?
You can attend every seminar, Bible conference, or spiritual warfare convention...get every degree that is available...and listen to the teaching tapes of the most renowned Preachers in the land - but if you don't have the Power of God operating in your life, then the devil will not obey you.
F.B. Meyer made a comment on this subject that is worth quoting -
"When the sons of Sceva started on the demon, he turned on them, and said : 'You little dwarfs, you lilliputians, who are you? I know Paul! I don't know you, I have never heard about you before; your name has never been talked about down in Hell. No one knows you, nor about you outside of this little bit of a place called Ephesus.'
"Yes, and there is the question that was put to me today: 'Does anyone know of me down in Hell?' Do the devils know about us? Are they scared about us? Are they frightened by us? Or do they turn upon us? When we preach on Sunday, or when we visit in the streets, or take our Sunday School class, the devil says, 'I don't know you, you are not worth my powder and shot; you can go on doing your work. I am not going to upset Hell to stop you."
Think about what is being said here. The evil spirit said that he recognized Jesus to be the Son of God Who has the power to dispossess spirits. He then went on to say that he was acquainted with Paul for he was a servant of the Most High God and was given the power to cast out devils. But when it came to the "sons of Sceva" - who were neither disciples of Jesus nor servants of God - immediately the spirit recognized that they had neither the authority nor the right to attempt to work miracles and expel them.
The reality of your Christian walk really sets in when you begin to ask yourself some pointed questions - Am I talked about in Hell? Do the devils recognize me for my strong relationship with Jesus? Are they frightened by me because I am so full of the Word of God and the Power of God? Or is the devil mocking and laughing - saying that I am not worth upsetting Hell to stop me?
In the ancient world, there were those who used magical names in incantations. The "sons of Sceva" thought it impressive to use the name of "Jesus" as an incantation. The evil spirit was not impressed in the least.
What about your prayers? Is the name of Jesus almost like an incantation that you use against the enemy of your soul - for it is not backed up by the Power of God or a consecrated life?
Believe it or not - You can say the name of Jesus all day long, and the devil will not flee.
But back it up with faith and a holy life that is filled with the power of God , and demons will run!
Does anyone know of me down in Hell?
You may be popular in your small circle in town, but what really matters in life is that you are recognized in Hell.
That's when you know that you have the Power!
May God Bless His Word.
