Lord, Don't Let Me Be As The Wicked!
The wicked man rejects, despises, and understands not the counsels, purposes, or designs of the Lord - "against themselves" - for their own destruction.
Let's look into the Word today and see if there are any traces of wickedness still in our lives.
May God sanctify us with His Truth and totally deliver us so that Satan has no place in which to work through our ignorance or rebellion.
Luke 7:30 tells us - "But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him."
These religious leaders annulled, frustrated, brought to nothing, and treated with contempt the will and plan of God which was manifested for their welfare. The Lord designed that they would prepare to receive the Messiah by adhering to John the Baptist's admonition to repent of all of their sins and then be baptized to demonstrate to all their spiritual change. But they simply would not comply with this command.
Here they were - the leaders - held in reputation among the people for their devotion to God as well as being those celebrated for their knowledge of the Scriptures. Yet the Word of God tells us that they "rejected the counsel of God against themselves." They despised what He commanded, disbelieved His promises, and disobeyed His precepts. And they did it all to their own injury and ruin.
Could it be today that you are like the Pharisees and lawyers in that you are rejecting "the counsel of God"? The Father - Who knows what is best for His children - has revealed to you His will for your life but you are not interested. You have another agenda to follow.
If that be the case, know this - Just as these religious leaders "rejected the counsel of God against themselves," even so are you doing the same. No one fights God and wins. When you dismiss His purposes for your life, you are doing so to your own hurt and detriment. Things will not go well for you. Eventually - like these leaders - you will totally lose out with God.
Isaiah 5:19 tells us - "That say, Let Him make speed, and hasten His work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!"
The Prophet Isaiah was sent to a people who outrightly despised "the counsel of the Holy One of Israel." What provocation... what defiance is expressed here in their words! These people had no Fear of God whatsoever. They challenged Him to show forth His Justice on their behalf. They simply did not believe that He would carry out His plan. In their lusts, they blasphemously scoffed at this "Holy One of Israel" - while daring Him to hurry and come on the scene with His supposed vengeance and punishment for their wrongdoing. They heard His Word but believed that He was "all talk" and "no action." They mocked at His threatenings which came forth from His servants - the prophets - while plunging deeper and deeper into sin and perversion.
Are there a people like this in our day?
Can they be found within the walls of the Church?
The answer to both questions is a definitive "Yes!"
Sad to say - there are those within the Christian ranks who do not take seriously the threats of Almighty God against their sinful ways and lifestyle. Somehow they have swallowed the lie that He will not carry out His Justice on their behalf. While sitting at the feet of "milquetoast" preaching over the years, they have convinced themselves that He is some "Cream-Puff" or doting Grandfather-type Who never displays any anger for sin and would never dare to judge His sweet "little ones" whom He calls His Church.
This attitude is pure wickedness! If any trace of it is found in your heart, then it is our duty as watchmen to admonish you to repent for you surely are not right with the Lord. Entertaining such thoughts places you in the category right alongside the defiant, lust-driven sinner headed for a Devil's Hell!
And lastly, Micah 4:12 says - "But they know not the thoughts of the LORD, neither understand they His counsel: for He shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor."
Besides rejecting and despising the "counsel" of God, the Prophet Micah addressed another characteristic of the wicked - "neither understand they His counsel."
"But they know not the thoughts of the LORD, neither understand they His counsel..."
To what was the Prophet referring here?
Verse 11 of Chapter 4 offers an explanation - "Now also many nations are gathered against thee, that say, Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon Zion."
Zion - God's people - were experiencing His Judgment. As oftentimes His plan, the Lord was using the pagan nations to chastise His people.
These heathen had one idea in mind, but He certainly had another. He willed that His people - under His severe blows - would come to repentance so that He could pardon them of their sins. Thinking that the Almighty had totally abandoned His own people, the enemy nations gathered together to bring about their ruin and destruction. Their overall design was to break "Zion" in pieces.
Little did these pagans realize - but the same God Who was using them as an instrument of His Providence to judge or correct His people would turn around and then severely judge them for doing so. They did not understand this plan at all.
With the "rod of God" in their hands, they sought to pulverize "Zion." They became haughty, arrogant, and cruel - thinking that they were highly favored or more privileged than the people of God. But when the end was reached - total repentance - the very same nation which was used by God to scourge was punished themselves for their own wickedness.
Their doom was prophesied by Micah - "...for He shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor." God would tread them under His feet and beat them to pieces as they designed to do so to His people.
Perhaps today you are under attack from the heathen in some way or fashion. People are gathered together for your ruin and destruction. They have voiced their sentence against you, and things certainly do not look good.
Don't be like the wicked man in not understanding the ways of the Lord.
These people have one agenda for your life, but know of a surety that God has another. They are gathered together for your ruin, but He has your salvation and deliverance in mind.
He placed the "rod" of correction in their hands for a time to bring you to repentance. That is all! Once that objective is accomplished, know this - He will take the "rod" out of their hands and place it in another's to punish, correct, scourge, judge, and break them in pieces. In their haughtiness, they may be jeering and laughing at your fate, but their day is coming. The very same people who dug a pit for you will fall into it themselves. The one who prepared the gallows for you will hang on it himself.
This is God's way.
Your enemies may be gathering together right now - planning your ruin. However, even as they plan, God is gathering them together as "sheaves" into His threshing floor to be beaten to pieces.
Understand the will and way of the Lord. Cooperate with the Holy Spirit. Repent of all wrongdoing and line your life up with the Word of God. If you do so, you will witness the downfall and destruction of the very people who opposed you and caused you much harm.
God does not want His people to reject, despise, or be ignorant of His "counsel."
Hence, let's allow the Holy Spirit to shine the spotlight of His Holy conviction on our hearts today - revealing any areas which reflect wicked thinking or reasoning. Let's come clean before Him - not tolerating any resemblance to the wicked whatsoever.
1 Corinthians 14:20 says - "Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men."
Ephesians 5:17 says - "Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is."
And let our prayer be - "Lord, don't let me ever be as the wicked who reject, despise, and are ignorant of your "counsel" to their own destruction.
May God Bless His Word.
