How Is This Revelation Going To Change Your Prayer Life?
"Be married to this heir, and have all." - J. Trapp - Biblical Illustrator - New Testament
Hebrews 1:2 says of the Lord Jesus Christ - "...Whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by Whom also He made the worlds."
Jesus is the "heir of all things."
Romans 4:13 says of Abraham - "For the promise, that He should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith." An "heir" is one who succeeds or is to succeed to an estate. Imagine being the "heir" of the entire earth or world! Yet, this is exactly what this Scripture is saying about Abraham and all of his spiritual descendents - those who possess his faith in God.
The whole world was given to him by God as his inheritance. This is verified in Genesis 12:1-3 which says - "Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."
Being the "heir of the world" is one thing, but how about being the "heir of all things"?
Abraham was the great "Father of the faith." However, the writer of Hebrews is presenting Someone far greater than Abraham when He speaks of this One as being "Heir of all things."
Who is this One Who is greater than even Abraham?
He is none other than the Son of God - the Messiah - the Incarnate One - the Mighty Redeemer - the Creator of heaven and earth - the Lord Jesus Christ!
It is written of Him that God "appointed" Him to be "heir of all things." In other words, by being the Son of God, He became "heir." This denotes that He is possessor or lord of all things. All things are His as the property of the Father descends to the Son. He has a right to all things. By right of creation and redemption, He has become the sovereign Lord of all - the absolute disposer, director, and governor of all persons and things. "All things" includes all persons and things in the most unlimited sense.
"Heir of all things" - There is no greater or higher possible position than this one. This title notes His rank and dignity as the Son of God. And it was made by the highest possible authority - "Whom He (God) hath appointed heir of all things."
"Heir of all things" - The whole universe is His. He is Lord of all. His lordship is universal...His possessions are unlimited...and His wealth is infinite..
"Heir of all things " - He is Lord of all the laws that govern material things. He is Lord of all the principles that govern mankind.
"Heir of all things" - He is heir to all the thoughts of men and angels and to the affections of all mankind.
"Heir of all things" - The authority over all flesh has been given to Him.
Matthew 21:38, Mark 12:7, and Luke 20:14 all refer to the Messiah as the "heir" - "This is the heir." This Son is God's "heir." His inheritance was destined to come into possession of His Son.
Hence, we read in the Scriptures -
Matthew 11:27 says - "All things are delivered unto Me of My Father..."
John 3:35 says - "The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into His hand."
John 13:3 says - "Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands..."
John 16:15 says - "All things that the Father hath are Mine..."
John 17:2 says - "As Thou hast given Him ( Jesus) power over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as Thou hast given Him."
John 17:10 says - "And all Mine are Thine, and Thine are Mine; and I am glorified in them."
Besides being the Son of God, He qualifies to be the "Heir of all things" by right of His being the Creator of all - "... by Whom also He made the worlds."
John 1:1-3 verifies - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made."
Colossians 1:16 says - "For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him."
Ephesians 3:9 adds - "...God, Who created all things by Jesus Christ."
As Mediator, He has all things committed to Him.
Acts 2:36 says - "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, Whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ."
Acts 10:36 says - "...Jesus Christ: (He is Lord of all:)"
Jesus Christ is greater than Abraham in that Abraham was the "heir of the world," but He is "heir of all things." There is no greater position than this one. He is possessor or lord of all things. All that the Father has has been given to Him.
What does this have to do with you?
If you are Born Again, then you are married to Jesus - you are a part of His Bride. By way of marriage, all that He has now becomes yours. You are "joint-heir" with Him "of all things."
Psalm 84:11 says - "...no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly."
The next time you pray, remember that you are offering your petitions to the One Who is "heir of all things." He owns it all. And whatever you do - don't forget that because of your union with Him, what is His has now become yours.
"Be married to this heir, and have all."
May God Bless His Word.
